Kensi and Deeks Fanfiction the Baby Flips Over

Hi, I'm Emily; speechie by day, introvert...all the time. I have a not-so-secret obsession with NCIS:LA, Eric Christian Olsen and Densi. My other favorites are Murdoch Mysteries, Criminal Minds and Harry Potter. I dabble in writing and can be found on FF.net as ejzah.
Anonymous asked:
Can you do a fanfic of Kensi and Deeks facing their worst nightmare when during a case one of the bad guys kidnaps their newborn baby.
A/N: So I decided to modify this a bit because I feel like Kensi and Deeks have been through enough when it comes to children. Even so, there's a fair amount of drama and such and a wee bit of hurt-comfort. Oh yes, and David Kessler makes another appearance.
***
Finish What You Start
Deeks muttered to himself as he typed up a report. The bullpen was empty beside himself; Sam and Callen were attending bomb disposal recertification class and Kensi was at home with their three month old, Caleb. Fatima and Rountree were somewhere around the place, likely trying to on up the other.
He had a picture of Kensi and Caleb on his phone, which was the only thing that got him through the long hours some days.
"Deeks, a call just came through OPS. It's David Kessler," Eric announced suddenly, appearing at the top of the stairs, and breaking the the peaceful silence.
"What? How the hell did he get this number?" Deeks demanded. After nearly a year and a half, Kessler had been once again relegated to the back of his mind. They hadn't heard or seen anything of him since escaping from prison.
"No idea, but he's asking for you. I told him you weren't available and he said you'd want to speak with him." Eric's voice was terse, to the point as it only was in the most serious of situations. "He says he won't speak to anyone else."
At that, something twisted inside Deeks and he stood abruptly, jogging up the steps. Eric followed beside him, matching him step for step. When they entered OPS, Deeks gestured for Eric to put the call through to his cell
"Are you tracing him?"
"Of course." Deeks nodded at Eric's confirmation and then placed the phone to his ear.
"This is Agent Martin Deeks," he said. From the little he'd seen and heard of David Kessler, he enjoyed being in control, and Deeks wasn't about to give it to him.
"Congratulations," Kessler responded, sounding amused. "I heard you got a promotion. Kensi must be so proud."
Clenching his fist around the phone, resisting the urge to react to Kessler's goading. The sound of him saying Kensi's name made Deeks stomach turn.
"You said you wanted to speak to me."
"Oh, that's no fun Marty. Is it ok if I call you Marty, or would you prefer Deeks? Or maybe "baby". Kensi calls you that a lot."
So he'd been watching them, or at the very least had a source who new enough about them to feed Kessler information. He glanced at Eric, who shook his head and held up three fingers. The needed to keep him on for at least 30 more seconds.
"Kessler, you have exactly 10 seconds to tell me what you want or I'm hanging up," Deeks warned him.
"You know, Kensi has always been very strong-willed," Kessler responded, competing ignoring Deeks' threat. "A strong man would know how control his wife."
"Oh my god, you are so delusional."
Kessler made a unintelligible noise and when he spoke again, his voice was low, on the edge of anger. It was clear he was trying to maintain his control.
"You have a nice little family, Deeks. Cute kid, pretty wife. It would be a shame if something happened to them while you were off playing hero."
Eric swore loudly and when Deeks turned towards him, he saw him staring at his computer screen with a mixture of horror and anger.
"Deeks, he's right outside your house," he hissed. Deeks froze for a moment and then was filled with an overwhelming wave of anger. By the time he was at the sliding doors, his hands were shaking a little. Eric didn't ask where he was going or what he planned to do.
"Personally I've never found men who think they have to control anybody particularly impressive," Deeks said.
Somehow he managed to keep his voice steady as he ran down the stairs, and tucked his gun into the back of his jeans. Time seemed to be moving in uneven spurts; one second he was by his desk and the next, he was by his truck. He muted his phone briefly as he turned the key in the ignition, hoping to keep Kessler talking for as long as possible.
He revved the engine, climbing to 75 miles before he flicked the sound back on.
"What, no comment? I didn't think you'd give up that easily."
"No, not giving up. I was just thinking, imagining, what I'll do to Kensi," Kessler said a little dreamily. "All the unexplored things you're clearly to afraid to do. I think she'll be easy to subdue."
"If you truly believe that, then you don't know Kensi at all. She can take your sorry ass out quicker than you can say "mommy issues".
His phone beeped and he lowered it, glancing at the text Eric had sent.
"I tried calling Kensi, but her phone is going straight to voicemail. Rountree, Fatima, and LAPD are all on their way."
Deeks' stomach dipped again. Kessler must have some kind of signal blocker. He was about ten minutes out from their house now.
"Yes, but children make women weak, soft. Kensi's a mother now, not a federal agent. I give her two minutes." As Kessler spoke, Deeks heard the sound of a car door slamming. "You know, I've always wanted to have a child to mold and make my own."
Deeks slammed the gas pedal to the ground, blasting through a red light, just narrowly missing a blue sedan.
"Kessler," he growled, voice shaking with rage and fear. The thought of him near Kensi and the baby terrified him. Kensi was strong, but he knew she would do anything to keep Caleb safe.
"See you soon, Agent Deeks," Kessler said and then the phone clicked loudly in Deeks' ear.
"Son-of-a-!" Deeks shouted, slamming the phone against the dashboard as a half-sob tightened his throat. Even though he knew she wouldn't pick up, he dialed Kensi's number, swiping under his nose while he sped through busy intersections and swerved around slower vehicles.
It took seven minutes to reach their. Seven minutes too long. He swerved into the driveway, leaving his truck idling as he raced to the front door, slipping his gun from his waistband.
He turned the doorknob, finding it unlocked and his broke out in goosebumps as he walked in. Quickly glancing around, he noticed a table was overturned in the living room and several glasses and what looked like a platter were scattered across the floor.
There was a loud banging noise from above, like someone had knocked into a wall or thrown something, followed by a shout that he distinctly recognized as Kensi's voice.
"Kensi!" Deeks called out without thinking as he raced for the stairs. He made it to the top landing when he heard a single gunshot coming from their bedroom. He jerked as though the bullet had pierced his body and he rocked back on his feet slightly.
Deeks stumbled to the door and yanked it open, desperately scanning the room. David Kessler lay in a crumpled heap a few feet from their bed. He was face down and blood was beginning to seep from beneath his body. Based on the hold in the middle of his back, he was almost certainly dead.
"Kensi," he repeated more quietly, desperately.
"I'm over here," she answered quietly. He found her on the other side of the bed, wedges against the crib, with Caleb cradled in her arms, head bent over him. Caleb was sleeping peacefully, his mouth slightly rounded as he breathed deeply.
"Are you ok? Is Caleb ok?" He kneeled in front of them, reaching out, but hesitating to touch them at the last second. Kensi nodded slowly, finally looking up.
"I made sure he didn't lay a finger on Caleb," she said hoarsely.
"Oh my god, Kens," he whispered. Her lip was split and there was a nasty gash along her temple, blood trickling into her hair. Deeks noticed the beginnings of what looked like several bruises too and saw that her the collar of her shirt was torn.
"I'm fine." She shook her head jerkily, her fingers closing around his chest. He grasped her forearms, gently tugging her into his arms as he squeezed his eyes shut for a moment.
When he opened them again, he pressed his lips to Kensi's forehead and then carefully bent forward to brush the lightest of kisses to Caleb's cheek. His upper lip twitched, but otherwise he didn't move.
"He's finally gone," Kensi whispered, her fingers grasping at his hand. They held each other, clinging to one another as the distant sound of sirens filled the air.

A/N: After talking it through with @mashmaiden, I decided that Kensi and Deeks live about 15 minutes from the mission and the streets were magically clear on this particular day.

Can you do a fanfic where the team reunites with Eva (season 3 sacrifice episode) and Kensi gets a jealous and maybe set in the present day?
A/N: I really don't like writing jealous Kensi at this point, so hopefully this isn't too out of character for her. I think she's well past the point of head butting Talia and such. Hopefully you'll find my take suitable.

Connection
"Marty Deeks, NCIS," Deeks said, showing his badge to the DEA agent documenting evidence surrounding an exploded vehicle. "This is my partner, Agent Blye. More agents were keeping curious bystanders behind the yellow caution tape. "What can you tell us so far?"
"The driver was Mexican," a woman answered, coming from the side. Deeks' face brightened and he offered her his hand and a delighted grin. Kensi recognized her a second later.
"Eva Espinosa," he said, shaking her hand. Actually it was more of a squeeze than a shake, if Kensi was being honest. "I definitely didn't expect to run into you again, but it's good to see you."
"You too, Detective. And of course, Agent…Blye as well." She offered Kensi a perfunctory smile of welcome, eyes sliding back to Deeks a second later.
"Actually, it's Investigator," Deeks explained with his characteristic self-deprecating smile that accompanied explanations about his new title. "I made the switch to NCIS last year."
"Then congratulations are in order." Eva's voice rang with sincerity and she eyed Deeks appreciatively. "If anyone deserves it, it's you."
"Well, I don't know about that, but thanks. What about you?" Eva shrugged at his question and brushed her hair off her shoulder with the back of her hand.
She certainly didn't look like she'd been tramping through an ashy crime scene. Her clothes were practical, khakis and a under a thin blazer, but she looked effortlessly professional and in control. Kensi felt slightly underdressed in comparison in just jeans and a tank top.
"I'm still the police chief," she answered, her expression sobering, Kensi imagined she was remembering their last case together. It likely brought back less than pleasant memories. "Fortunately, the situation has improved and the position is not quite so dangerous as it once was."
"I'm glad to hear it," Deeks told her genuinely. "Well, should we get started on the car?" He turned to Kensi, including her in the suggestion. He didn't seem to sense her unease, which she was glad for.
"Actually, you two go ahead, I'm going to see if there were any witnesses," Kensi declined, keeping her voice light.
"Ok, sounds good." He brushed her arm as he passed to fall into step beside Eva. It was a small gesture, but she appreciated it nonetheless.
Instead of immediately heading for the crowd of onlookers, Kensi watched them walk away. Despite the 10 years since they'd last had contact, or at least as far as she was aware, they interacted with surprising ease. Like old friends.
Deeks turned his head just enough for her to see his mouth forming unintelligible words. Head tipping back, Eva laughed, her hand finding his arm and clinging to him briefly. There was nothing overtly flirtatious about it, but a comfort that made Kensi's stomach crawl uncomfortably.
She didn't want to be jealous of Eva. There was no reason to, Kensi reminded herself firmly. Deeks loved her, he'd married her. He didn't want Eva or any other woman.
It was hard to quash that jealousy though when the memory of Eva hugging Deeks, pressing a tender kiss to his cheek, was so vivid. They'd found a kinship within minutes, recognizing something in the other that the rest of the team didn't quite understand. It was evident know as they chatted and laughed together.
A quiet, insidious voice whispered that maybe Kensi would never understand Deeks on that level. She'd never been a cop, never shared the exact same experience as Deeks and Eva did working for a police force.
Breathing deeply, she forced herself to turn away and started looking for likely sources of information. Tracking down security cameras and a few shop owners distracted her to some degree, but she couldn't help checking over her shoulder every so often.
Fortunately, Deeks and Eva had finished their conversation, at least for the time being, and were examining what was left of the van. She saw Deeks pluck something out of the wreckage and drop it into the evidence bag Eva held open for him. There was that damn familiarity again.
After retrieving some security footage for Fatima to review and talking to a few witnesses, Kensi slowly made her way back across the street. Apparently Eva and Deeks had finished too. He leaned against her SUV, legs crossed at the ankle while Eva faced him.
Neither of them noticed her approaching, consumed with their conversation again.
"-you still have the medal I gave you?" Eva was asking with a playful lilt to her voice. Her accent was more obvious now, as though she'd let herself relax.
"Of course I do," Deeks responded and though Kensi couldn't quite see his face, she imagined he wore a half-smile. "It's in the glovebox in my truck."
"Really?" Eva sounded dubious. Shifting forward, Kensi got a glimpse of Deeks' face, finding tender expression.
"I always keep important things."
"Hey, I think I got everything I could from the witnesses and security feed," she called out loudly, closing the final few yards between them. Deeks looked past Eva, pushing himself off the SUV once he saw Kensi. Eva took a step back, slipping her hands into her front pockets.
"Good, we catalogued all the evidence that was viable and Eva's going to call OPS with some information later," Deeks informed her. Turing back to Eva, he added, "We'll get you a copy of the forensic report once it's processed."
"Thanks," Eva said. If Kensi wasn't mistaken, her expression was more reserved again. "I really did enjoy catching up with you, Deeks. Hopefully we'll have a chance to spend sometime together outside this case."
"Sure thing," Deeks said easily. Sparing Kensi a half glance, Eva leaned forward and hugged Deeks. It didn't have quite the same intensity or length as the first time, but Deeks still held her for a few moments. "See you around."
As she walked away, Kensi moved closer to Deeks, keeping her arms crossed.
"So, why didn't you say anything before?" Still watching Eva, Deeks' question held no judgment. It still made Kensi flush every so slightly. "Before you interrupted, you were standing there for a minute," he clarified.
"It sounded like you were having a personal conversation," Kensi answered, wincing at how catty that sounded. "I didn't want to intrude, Deeks."
"But something bothered you about it." Of course he noticed. This was Deeks who new her better than anyone. Figuring it wouldn't do any good to beat around the bush, she said,
"I just didn't realize you kept that medal she gave you years ago."
"Oh." Deeks turned, his eyebrows creased with a frown. "She said it was her Guardian Angel. That's not the kind of gift you just get rid of, even if it doesn't hold the same meaning for me."
"She also implied that you were her new Guardian Angel," Kensi added reluctantly, starting to get to the root of the problem.
"And that bothered you," he surmised. "Why?" It was amazing that he didn't see it. Or maybe he just wanted to hear her admit exactly why she was upset.
"You guys have a connection that I didn't expect. After all this time, it surprised me that you still have that, especially since you haven't worked together on a decade."
"I'm sorry I upset you. I didn't meant to, I was just happy to see that Eva's doing so well when last I heard, she was in danger just for holding her position." He sighed, looking skyward then back down at Kensi. "And yeah, we do have a lot in common as far as jobs go and…on ways I can't explain. Maybe I just see someone who needed my help back then and connect with that."
He paused to lick his lips and took her hand.
"But that doesn't even begin to match what I have with you, Kensi," he continued firmly. "I'm not attracted to Eva in that way." His voice grew softer. "So you have nothing to worry about."
Unexpectedly, Kensi felt her throat tighten and she swallowed a couple times to maintain her composure.
"Have I told you how much I love you?" she murmured, ignoring the many people around them and cupping his cheek.
"Not in the last five hours," he said with the kind of smile Hetty would definitely describe as cheeky. "I love you too."
"That being said, if I happen to see Eva kiss you on the cheek, or anywhere else, I might lose some control of my impulses," she warned.
"Noted." Deeks hugged her for a second. "You're the only one I want to kiss anyway."

"Hey baby, I'm almost ready." Pants on but still in her bra, Kensi continued to towel dry her hair as she walked outside of the bathroom. Stopping shortly as she noticed Deeks still in bed. "Why aren't you ready? Are you feeling alright?"
Not able to ignore her concern any longer, Kensi reached a hand towards her husband's forehand, looking for signs of a fever that weren't going to be there. Deeks' disinterest when she had offered to shower together should have been a red flag but she had decided to play it cool and accept his explanation that he had taken a late shower when he came home from tending the bar. But now, finding the usual early riser and basically Santa's little helper still tangled in their bed sheets when they were supposed to be going out to pick their tree, Kensi realized she was missing something.

A/N: This may be a wee bit dramatic.

Symbol
Deeks casually leaned against the doorway to the their bedroom, adjusting the cuff of his dress shirt as he observed Kensi. She had one foot propped on a chair while she slid on a strappy black shoe, revealing a hint of golden skin. Her other leg was concealed beneath the length of her dark blue dress.
She brought her foot down, the skirt of the dress swirling around her ankles gracefully. She caught sight of Deeks as she turned, a knowing smile crossing her lips.
"You look like you have inappropriate thoughts in mind," she guessed, sizing him up with a long drag of her eyes. "And we'll definitely be late if you keep looking at me that way."
Deeks pushed off the wall, shrugging innocently.
"I was just thinking that you're going to be the most beautiful woman at this gala thing tonight," he told her, sliding close enough to run his finger along her exposed shoulder.
"You don't look too bad yourself." Kensi ran her eyes over him again and reached out straighten his tie, fingers lingering on his jaw. He was highly tempted to kiss her, 95% sure that Kensi would be completely on board, but they had promised Kilbride they'd attend this charity gala.
He pulled away reluctantly, earning another grin from Kensi, who clearly sensed his internal struggle. She retrieved a silver necklace with a sapphire pendant from the bathroom and held it out to him.
"Here, you're always better at getting the clasps than me," she said.
Deeks swept her hair over one shoulder, linking the thin silver chain together so the pendant fell in the dip above her dress. Rearranging her hair, he bent his head and kissed the side of her neck.
"Beautiful," he murmured. "You ready?"
"Yes." Kensi glanced around one more time and then clarified, "Almost, I'll be down in a minute."
"Ok, I'll feed Monty."
He gave Monty his evening meal, even managing to get the old guy to play catch for a couple minutes. Kensi hadn't joined him yet, so he threw out some trash and chatted with one of their neighbors who always just happened to be out at the same time as him. As he came back inside, he heard a series of thumps, followed by a crash.
"Kens!" he called, racing upstairs with Monty at his heels. His panic rose a notch as reached the bedroom and found a trail of clothes and blankets. He followed it to the bathroom, where he could hear more banging and general sounds of distress. "Kensi," he repeated, pushing the door open.
She was on her knees, frantically pawing through what looked like the contents of the garbage can. Heedless of the the fragile material of he dress dragging across the floor, Kensi bent over the mess. The counter around the sink was also covered in jewelry and make up.
As Deeks crossed the threshold, she spun on her knees, dragging a hand through her hair with a desperate look in her eyes.
"I lost my wedding ring," she gasped, holding up her hand, which only bore her engagement ring at the moment. "I took it off and I meant to put it back on after I showered, but now I can't find it."
"Kensi, it's ok," Deeks insisted, alarmed at her reaction. He carefully knelt and cupped her elbows, helping her to her feet. "We'll find it."
"I looked everywhere. Deeks, I'm so sorry." A few tears slipped down her cheeks and Deeks gently brushed them away.
"Hey, we're going to keep looking, alright," he said calmly, figuring that now was not the time to address her apology. "When did you last see it?"
Kensi rubbed her palm under her nose, leaving a smear of mascara on her cheeks.
"Um, maybe a few hours ago?" she offered hesitantly. "I was working in the garden before I started getting ready. I took my ring off to clean it and left it by the bathroom sink. At least I thought I did."
"Ok, I'll keep looking here, you go downstairs and see if it's down there. Maybe you put it in the kitchen instead." Kensi looked uncertain, but nodded, and followed his suggestion.
After she left the room, Deeks sent off a quick text to Sam, letting him know they'd be running late and then bent down to sort through the discarded tissues and other junk scattered on the floor. As he suspected, it wasn't there. He could hear Kensi rummaging around downstairs and he hoped he hadn't made a mistake by leaving her alone. Based on how distraught she was when he found her, something else was clearly going on besides just misplacing her ring.
Working systematically, Deeks searched the counter, bath, and floor. Just when he was starting truly frustrated, he spotted something glittery wedged underneath the bottom edge of the counter. He carefully dug it out, firmly closing his first around the thin band of silver and diamonds.
Kensi was still searching the kitchen, looking slightly more put together, but still on edge when he came back downstairs. He didn't say anything, just opened his hand, letting the ring rest in his palm.
"Oh my god, where did you find it?" Kensi gasped, holding out a trembling hand as she allowed him to slip it back on her fourth finger.
"Under the sink. It must have gotten knocked off somehow." And that was exactly the wrong thing to say. Kensi's face crumpled and she practically fell against his chest. He folded her in his arms, pressing his cheek against her hair.
"I'm so sorry," she repeated. "I should have been more careful."
"Kensi, you don't have to keep apologizing," Deeks told her gently. "What's going on. I've never seen you this upset over something like this." She lifted her head, giving him a vaguely incredulous look.
"Deeks, I lost my wedding ring. The symbol of our marriage, our vows to one another. "It's like I don't even care." She shook her head, lips set in a flat line."
Deeks' hands froze on her shoulders as her reaction suddenly began to make sense.
"Ok, first of all, you didn't lose the ring, you misplaced it."
"I'm serious, Deeks."
"So am I. This kind of thing could happen to anyone and who knows, I might have been the one who knocked it off. We'll never know," Deeks insisted somewhat flippantly. Then more seriously, he tipped her chin up. "And as much as I love to see this ring on your finger," he rubbed his thumb over her knuckles. "I would buy you a hundred new ones. It's a piece of metal and some rocks in the end and I will never put it's value or symbolism above you."
Kensi looked up at him uncertainly, searching his expression, some of the stress beginning to dissipate. Whatever she found in his face, had her gripping the edges of his suit, fingers gripping tightly.
"Maybe that's true, but you need to know how much I value you, our relationship. And that I would never, ever just toss it away," she said fiercely.
"I know." Deeks kissed her temple. "Even without a dozen rings, or a piece of paper, I'd know it."
Kensi grasped his cheeks, her touch less than completely gentle, and kissed him with the same intensity as she spoke.
***
A/N: Hopefully this is ok. I don't know how likely it is that Kensi would leave her ring laying around after cleaning it, but it seemed the most plausible outside of her losing it on the job or something. Which seems even more unlikely since she doesn't really wear her rings in the field.
Thanks for the prompt!

Can you please write a prompt about Deeks being interviewed by some famous magazine/ newspaper for being the oldest person to pass the FLETC and the others being jealous ?
A/N: I'll start off by saying I don't know as part of a team that regularly goes undercover, if Deeks could be interviewed like this. I know in the original NCIS, there was an episode where one of the team was being considered for a promotional campaign, so I've gone that route. Hopefully you don't mind.

Almost Famous
"Hey, we're on for Saturday," Deeks announced, sliding his phone back into his pocket as he walked back into the bullpen. He leaned on Kensi's desk, grinning at her.
"How many people are going to be there?" she asked, biting at the tip of her nail.
"Mm, maybe 10-15." He tilted his head in consideration. "I know you were a little hesitant at first, but I promise you it's going to be amazing. Nothing like your first time."
"I'm not nervous, I just don't want to do that thing where you put your-"
"Seriously guys, we're sitting right here," Sam interrupted loudly. "We don't need to hear about that."
Deeks turned to him, scrunching his face up.
"What exactly do you think we're talking about?"
"We know enough about your sex life as it is. I definitely don't want to know what you're doing with 10-15 other people." Sam made a revolted face while Callen leaned back in his chair, looking more intrigued than anything.
"We were talking about surfing," Kensi clarified, her expression unimpressed by Sam's accusation.
"With my veterans group," Deeks added. Sam had the good grace to look slightly abashed. Beside him, Callen chuckled softly to himself.
"Well, after all your PDAs and inappropriate stories over the years, you can't blame us," Sam said defensively.
"That's ok, Sam. We forgive you. You can join us if you want," Deeks offered, grinning at Sam's vaguely horrified look. "Hell, the whole office can come."
"That is a very generous invitation," Kilbride said unexpectedly from behind them. Deeks turned slowly, to face him more fully. As usual, the admiral was in a three piece suit, bearing a look that perfectly expressed his distaste for the world at large. "However, surfing and other activities will have to wait. I need you in my office now, Deeks."
"Ooh, looks like you're in trouble, Deeks," Callen goaded him, sticking the end of his pencil in his mouth and winking. "A call to Kilbride's office is never good."
"My advice is whatever you're planning on saying, don't say it," Sam added helpfully. Offering a brief glare, Deeks pushed himself to his feet with a sigh. Assuming that Deeks would immediately follow, Kilbride was already halfway up the stairs.
"What do you think he wants?" Kensi asked, rising along with him, a shadow of concern in her eyes. Based on the past, he wondered if her thoughts had turned to clandestine undercover operations.
"I don't know," Deeks muttered, heading towards Kilbride's office.
Whatever it was, Deeks figured it couldn't be that serious since he honestly couldn't think of anything he'd done that would bring the Admiral's ire. Of course, Kilbride took offense at vanilla lattes and Deeks' fondness for what he referred to as "hippy music".
Kilbride was waiting by his desk, hands folded behind his back when Deeks walked in. He had a calculating look in his eye that out Deeks on edge and had him reaching for his hair before he remembered his bangs were a little too short to flop in his eyes anymore.
"Investigator Deeks," he said, gesturing for Deeks to close the door. "I suppose you've figured out why you're here. Nothing remains a secret on your team for long, which is unfortunate given your high level of security."
"Not really, Sir" Deeks arched an eyebrow. "Unless you take objection to my personal appearance again. I'd say it's significantly improved in the last year."
Kilbride's gaze shifted up to Deeks' hair, his lips pursing, but surprisingly he managed to keep any choice comments to himself.
"No, that's not my reason for talking to you today." He heaved a sigh and turned to his desk. "As you know, you stirred up a lot of talk and drama when you attended FLETC. You were one of the oldest recruits in the history of the academy and this agency."
"Thank you for the reminder, Sir," Deeks said wryly. Kilbride didn't react other than to
"You also happened to perform surprisingly well despite your advanced age," Kilbride continued. Deeks swore he saw the hint of a smirk play at the corner of his mouth, maybe acknowledging the irony of the term given his own feelings about Deeks' relative youth. "And that has garnered you a great deal of attention among your FLETC instructors and in turn, some of the higher ups at NCIS."
"That doesn't exactly sound like a terrible thing," Deeks said slowly, completely unsure where this was going.
"It's damn inconvenient." This time he actually allowed the smallest of smiles. "They want to interview you."
"Wouldn't that be a security risk?" Deeks asked, even as he tried to wrap his mind around the idea that anyone wanted to interview him. Least of all related to a time in his life that he often tried to forget.
"The interview would be conducted by someone from the NCIS PR team and wouldn't go beyond an educational and recruitment device," Kilbride explained. "Given your success, the agency is reconsidering its age limit policy when it comes to experienced law enforcement officers. If you decide to participate, then your interview will be a deciding piece in how to best train and utilize non-traditional recruits."
"If I decide…" Deeks trailed off pointedly.
"Yes, you have the option to decline." Tucking his hands into his pockets, Kilbride regarded him knowingly. "However, the agency, and your current leader would greatly appreciate if you took this one in a lifetime opportunity."
"Got it," Deeks said, figuring that was as close as he would ever get to a "please". "Alright, let's do it."

A/N: The team reaction and actual interview will come at a later time.
